A drunken Bournemouth teenager was charged for driving without a license


An unemployed 19 year-old who was twice the legal drinking limit was found guilty of drink driving at the Magistrate Court in Bournemouth on Monday 19th.

Anthony Cornish, was arrested on 24th December 2008, driving a silver Subaru through Bournemouth, whilst under the influence of alcohol. Cornish also faced charges of driving without a license and with no insurance. He pleaded guilty to all three driving offences.

In the car with Cornish was his brother, who had also been drinking. Mr Paul Griffin, prosecuting, said that when the police took Cornish in “he was twice over the legal limit.” Mr Peter Johnson, defending, said: “Both brothers had been drinking but decided that he (Cornish) would drive.”

Cornish was due to appear in court on 16th January 2009, however he failed to appear. He handed himself in to the police on 19th January 2009 at 9.25am and was then detained until the afternoon when his case was heard. Mr Johnson said: “He thought it was the 19th and surrender himself this morning.”

Cornish had previously been before the court in relation to a charge of drink driving in 2007. Due to this, he was disqualified from driving for three years and ordered to pay £270 in fines for drink driving, driving without a license and for having no insurance. Cornish will under tale a driving course that will mean he will be driving again by 19th April 2011.
