The Postmen are in the next round for the Bournemouth University Griffin Cup after defeating Cook Crew in a dramatic game.
Six aside on a bright Sunday morning was clearly not everyone’s idea of a good start to the day. With a number of students on both teams turning up late, the match got underway half an hour behind schedule.
Both teams however quickly developed the competitive spirit, vying with each other to get through to the next round. Cook’s Crew were going for goals whenever they could in the first half but there were more misses than successes.
Due to the unusually hot morning there were a number of subs during the game from both sides. There was enthusiastic tackling and clear annoyance at the Postman’s strong defence.
Come half time the score was 2-0 to the Postman and Cooks Crew was keen to make up for missed goals.
During the second half the Postman’s defence improved and the goalie, having changed at half time, was making some impressive saves. Within the next 15 minutes Cooks Crew began to catch up on the score board, making it 3-2 to the Postman.
With the sun beginning to fade and the wind picking up the players gave it all they had in the last ten minutes, and bringing the most rested players onto the pitch, injected passion and excitement into the game.
But this was not enough for Cooks Crew who at the end were defeated 4-2.
